The Sports Grant at Oakgrove
Physical activity is a vital part of the Oakgrove curriculum, helping children to build confidence, learn team work skills, develop positive outlets for their energy and lay the foundations for a healthy and active future life. We aim to offer a broad and challenging programme which will offer the chance for all our children to participate and develop their full potential.
We are also committed to providing high quality outdoor education for our pupils. All classes will participate in Forest Schools sessions, during the school year with Acorns and Maples attending every week, working with the Forest Schools team in a local woodland area. Oaks, Willows and Sycamores have the opportunity to attend a residential at Ghyll Head Outdoor Education Centre in the Spring term. This is a very special opportunity for our children to raise self-esteem, develop teamwork through the outdoor experience and improve their physical skills and personal confidence.
We are also committed to offering high quality extra-curriculum sports clubs for our children. These clubs are provided by external coaches for all our pupils at lunch-time.

We purchase an annual package from The Stockport ‘Shapes’ Alliance which includes an afternoons coaching with a specialist PE teacher, improving the Professional development of our teachers and entering competitions with other Stockport schools.
The school has always invested significant funding from it’s budget in sports and physical recreation. The Sports Grant has enabled us to extend the range and depth of provision. We have improved professional development, curriculum development and pupil achievement and engagement through this investment.
